Warmaster Armies #3: Bretonnian Host Part 1— My Largest Army Project

Following last week’s yellow-and-black Minihammer project, I’m staying with Bretonnia for the third entry in my Warmaster Armies series. This time we’re back to 10mm, with what was, at the time, the largest army I had ever painted.

Warmaster 10mm scale army featuring multiple unit types.

A full muster of forces ready to route invading forces from Bretonnian lands!

The full army photograph gives some idea of the size of the project. There are ranks of infantry and cavalry, flying knights, artillery and a collection of characters, with plenty of individual details tucked between the larger formations. Small miniatures certainly don’t always mean a small painting project.

One of the things that stands out across this army is the variety of colour. Different groups have their own combinations, from the red-and-black infantry to the brighter heraldry of the mounted characters. The shared basing brings everything together, giving the army a consistent appearance without every unit having to wear the same colours.

There is also plenty to look at beyond the regiments. The character bases make room for little scenes: a knight accompanied by a musician, a mysterious figure rising from the water, and a winged mount towering over a knight on foot. These details deserve a closer look, so this post will move from the army as a whole down to some of its smallest features.
